Expand Your Powerwall 2 System
Powerwall 3 is now compatible with Powerwall 2. If your energy needs have grown, you can add storage to your existing system and keep the hardware you already own.

Both Generations, One System
Adding a Powerwall 3 to a home that already had a Powerwall 2 was not previously supported. It is now. Both generations can run together as a single system, managed as one.
For homeowners who installed a battery a few years ago and have since added an electric vehicle, ducted air conditioning or simply more household demand, this is the straightforward way to increase capacity without writing off the investment you already made.
Better use of your solar energy
Store more of what your panels already generate instead of exporting it for a low feed-in tariff.
Longer backup during outages
More stored energy means your home runs for longer when the grid goes down.
Greater energy independence
Cover more of your evening and overnight consumption from your own battery rather than the grid.
Flexibility as your needs grow
An EV, a pool, ducted air conditioning or a growing household all push consumption up. Add capacity when you need it.
What You Can Add
A single system can combine both generations. These are the maximum supported quantities.
Powerwall 2 units
The units you already own stay in the system
Powerwall 3 unit
Adds capacity plus an integrated solar inverter
Powerwall 3 Expansion units
Additional storage that runs off the Powerwall 3
Most homes need considerably less. We size the system against your actual consumption, not the maximum on paper.
Three Things That Affect Your Upgrade
Not every existing installation is ready to take a Powerwall 3 as it stands. These are the points we check before quoting.
Three-phase power supply
When installing on a three-phase grid connection, Powerwall 3 output is limited to 5 kW. The upgrade still works, but it changes what the system can deliver during a blackout and how quickly it can discharge. Worth understanding before you decide.
Gateway 1 and Neurio Meter
Gateway 1 and the Neurio Meter are not supported in these configurations. If your original installation used either, that hardware needs upgrading before Powerwall 3 can be added. Older installations are more likely to be affected, so it is the first thing we look at.
Sizing and switchboard capacity
The right configuration depends on your consumption pattern, your existing solar array and your switchboard. A certified installer needs to size, configure and where necessary upgrade the system rather than simply bolting on another unit.
What Support Is Available
Depending on where you live and what you already have installed, there may be federal or state support that reduces the cost of adding battery storage. These schemes change over time, and eligibility often depends on your postcode, your existing system and when it was installed.
Rather than guess, Solahart Port Macquarie checks what is currently available to you and applies anything you qualify for directly to your quote. We handle the paperwork as part of the installation.

Add Capacity.
Not a Whole New System.
Your Powerwall 2 was a significant investment and it still has plenty of life in it. This update means you can build on it rather than replace it, and only pay for the capacity you actually need to add.
